Peeing In A Soda Bottle -
Excerpt from Staged Reading, Atlanta Black Theatre Festival (2021)
Chayonne, THE character in this one-woman show came through with a force, invasive and demanding. She disrupted every project until her voice was heard. Chayonne takes you through her political and social analysis, views on marriage and sex, her thoughts on how children should be raised, her greatest pains and her warmest joys. She honors the wisdom we often ignore because it comes in rejected clothing. Yet, she (and those she represents) hold the knowledge, wisdom and truths that can transform us. Chayonne has had her say as a Staged Reading at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival starring Margarette Joyner; and as a Full Production as part of The Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas (2022) starring Kimberly Reynolds. Tears A Sister Cries-
Excerpt from Full Production, Reality Unmasked Season, Boynton Beach, FL
TEARS A SISTER CRIES was fun to write. In its original staging, late actor Thomas Mikal Ford said I shouldn't expect some audiences to like, it's too real for that. The idea for this one came from conversations with various single Christian women, where they were in relationships and what they struggled with when it came to embracing their passionate sexuality and the spiritual call for celibacy. This is a four-person cast.
And Daddy Came Home -
Excerpts from a Staged Reading, The Heritage Ensemble Theatre Co., Richmond, VA
A nine-person cast, including two women and two young men take the stage in AND DADDY CAME HOME. The concept was born from a radio talk show encouraging absentee Black fathers to return to their families/children. But, I couldn't help but ask if that's what their children want, especially if dad has been gone awhile. The challenges, pain and realizations come to the forefront through Malcolm Bromwell and the neighborhood of surrogate fathers who raised him. And Daddy Came Home is a 2022 Staged Reading Selection of the Garland Lee Thompson Sr. New Readers Theatre of the National Black Theatre Festival.
